Students in Communication and Hearing Working in Action (SCHWA-MT) is an ASUM-recognized student organization dedicated to engaging in philanthropic work on the University of Montana campus and in the Missoula community. SCHWA-MT is the local chapter of the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Our mission is to 1) facilitate peer and faculty interactions, 2) present opportunities for community involvement through volunteering and fundraising, 3) provide resources for academic achievement, and 4) offer professional development in the form of conferences, advocacy, and workshops. Members have the option of participating in different committees including volunteer, fundraising, social, advocacy, pre-service professional, advising, and advocacy. SCHWA-MT dedicates hundreds of hours each semester to create diverse learning and career opportunities for our members and professionals of tomorrow.
Operation Smile U of M is a philanthropic student organization committed to raising money to provide children with corrective surgeries for cleft lip and/or palate. As long as there are children in the world who need our help, we’ll do whatever it takes to give them the quality care they deserve. In our community, we hosts several events throughout the year to help raise awareness and funds, as well as get together and serve in whatever capacity is needed. We make sure to have a good time while we build connections with each other as well as reach out to the student body and the community. Please check out our facebook page for upcoming events and ways you can contribute to this cause.
