Montana Board of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists Continuing Education Requirements: State licensure for:
ASHA certification requires 30 hours during each 3-year certification maintenance interval. Continuing Education through MSHA: MSHA-sponsored CE credits follow the same standards set forth by ASHA. The Montana Board of Speech-language Pathology and Audiology accepts both MSHA and ASHA CE credits. Follow this link for more information: Montana Board of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists. MSHA CEUs are available to current MSHA members as a member benefit. MSHA non-members can join MSHA prior to or at an event to obtain a certificate of completion from MSHA. If the event offers only MSHA but not ASHA CEUs, you can submit these to ASHA on your own through the following form if you are audited. MSHA is an ASHA-Approved CE Provider We are the only ASHA approved CE Provider in the state of Montana. In this role, we conduct, evaluate, and continuously improve our continuing education (CE) courses using the standards and requirements established by the ASHA Continuing Education Board (CEB). A cooperative course offering is when one ASHA Approved CE Provider joins with another organization or entity that is not an ASHA Approved CE Provider to plan, deliver, and evaluate a continuing education course offering (or offerings) for ASHA CEUs. ASHA CE assesses a $400 fee for cooperative course offerings (known as a cooperative fee), and the ASHA CE Provider Portal calculates the fee based on the number of cooperative course offerings entered. (The fee is reduced to $50 for subsequent offerings of that same course. ) Contact our CE Coordinator, Ginger Collins at ginger.collins@umontana.edu for more information. Propose a course using this course planning form. Please note that it can take up to 60 days for your event to be approved, so contact MSHA at least 3 months prior to your proposed course to optimize your chance of approval. Advertising Cooperative Courses for ASHA CEUs MSHA will gladly help promote cooperative courses by 1) sending 2 "email blasts" to all MSHA members, 2) posting the event on the MSHA website event calendar, and 3) posting the event on our social media outlets (i.e., Instagram and Facebook) for a nominal fee of $75. Independent Study Continuing education credits can be earned through independent study (e.g., through reading journal articles; observing a master clinician; reviewing case files; doing an internship or some other type of hands-on experience; attending a conference that is SLP or Aud-adjacent, etc.) To receive continuing education credits from MSHA for completing an independent study, use this form: MSHA Independent studies for CEUs 2020 To receive ASHA CEUs for completing an independent study, please use these forms: Independent-Study-Participant-Worksheet Please note that members wishing to complete an independent study for continuing education credits must contact MSHA's CE Coordinator for approval prior to initiating the independent study.
